POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Roles & responsibilities for Pack positions are fully described in the BSA Leader Book. Following are summarized job descriptions as used in Pack 870:
Committee Chair: Supervises Pack Committee and PC meetings. The Pack Committee is the effective "Board" of the Pack.
Advancement: Understands Cub Scout & Webelos advancement programs and how boys advance. Works with den leaders to be sure that advancement will occur. Identifies & promotes Pack, Leader, and Scout Award opportunities. Receives from den leaders the advancements to be recognized at each pack mtg., Obtains the badges and other recognitions, and arranges for presentation at the pack meeting.
Membership: Membership is "seasonal" and coordinates the annual membership drive. Plans & publicizes registration and re-registration, and coordinates membership paperwork and new leader forms with Council. Handles rechartering with Council in November of each year.
Outings/Activities: Helps plan and arrange for outdoor pack activities, including summer camping. Arranges for tour permits when required. Arranges transportation of pack activities. Helps den leaders plan outdoor den activities, such as Webelos overnight campouts. Ensures that BSA health & safety requirements are met. Makes sure that at least one adult has completed BALOO training before conducting pack campouts. Baloo Training required.
Publicity: Coordinates Pack publicity. Responsible for submitting dens photos & articles to news outlets. Encourage pack service projects.
Quartermaster: Maintains Pack equipment & inventory lists. Responsible for getting equip. to and from campouts and events. Responsible for storage.
Secretary: Handle correspondence for the pack. This may include writing letters of appreciation and requests for reservations. Keep notes on business conducted at pack leaders' meetings. Record only key items such as things needing follow-up or items for the history of the pack. Maintain all individual Annual Health & Medical Record forms.
Training: Have 100% of pack leadership trained in their position of responsibility. Recommended to have at least one year of experience in a leadership position in Cub Scouting and should participate in a Council Trainer Development Conference. Responsible for: remaining current with training material and program updates, conducting orientation of new families, providing Fast Start Training, maintaining pack training records. The Pack Trainer helps leaders and parents understand purposes, policies, and procedures of the Cub Scouting program.
Treasurer: Responsible for Pack finances and records. Includes check writing, expense reimbursement, banking, budget reporting and status reporting to the PC.
Cubmaster: Executive Officer of the Pack. Selects den leadership. Presides over Pack Meetings and award and advancement ceremonies.
Assistant Cubmaster (Administration): Works with Cubmaster to plan and execute Pack Meetings and Events. Assists dens assigned responsibility for each month's event to ensure timely communications, RSVPs and planning etc. Assists the Cubmaster and takes charge in their absence. Fast Start & Basic Training required.
