Who are we?
Sponsored by the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, Cub Scout Pack 870 provides an opportunity to enrich the lives of young people in Dormont, PA and the surrounding South Hills communities of the Pittsburgh region. Pack 870 is in the Eagle Valley District of the Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Our Mission
To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
What is Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouts is a year-round family oriented part of the Boy Scouts of America program designed for boys and girls who are in kindergarten through fifth grades (or are 5-10 years old). Cub Scouting aims to promote character development, spiritual growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fitness, family understanding, respectful relationships, personal achievement, community service, fun and adventure, and preparation for Scouts BSA.
Cub Scout groups are organized as Packs in the BSA Council. The Pack includes all cub scouts and is divided into Dens that groups scouts of the same grade (see below).
Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting. Parents or guardians are encouraged to be in an active role in the program. Through interaction with parents/guardians, leaders, and friends, scouts learn cooperation, compassion, and courage. This family and community centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well spent with the children.
The Dens are divided by grade level as follows:
1st Grade is Tigers
2nd Grade is Wolves
3rd Grade is Bears
4th Grade is Webelos, which stands for "We'll Be Loyal Scouts".
